Being called “resilient” can be an odd compliment to accept. On one hand, the ability to “bounce back” from adversity or to adapt to difficult situations and move forward is undeniably a trait to be proud of. It reflects strength, perseverance, and a willingness to keep going when life gets tough. But on the other hand, to be seen as resilient often means you’ve had to walk through the fire first. And let's be honest—nobody dreams of having to endure hardship to earn that label.
Resilience, in many ways, is like a muscle. It grows stronger through use, but the training often comes in the form of negative or traumatic experiences. We don't build resilience by coasting through easy, comfortable times; it’s forged in moments of struggle when we’re forced to dig deep and keep moving forward despite the odds.
In this episode, I sit down with the author of the ResilientAF memoir trilogy, who has lived resilience firsthand. Her second installment, Not My Circus, is available for pre-sale, and the first book, Kissing Asphalt - The Courageous True Story of One Child's Unbreakable Spirit—From Kidnapping & Abuse to Self-Love, is out now. Through her writing, she shares her own journey of resilience—one that’s shaped by unimaginable adversity, from childhood trauma to the ultimate triumph of self-love.
Her story is a powerful reminder that resilience isn't just about surviving difficult experiences; it’s about transforming them into something that fuels your future. The author’s courage and strength show us that while resilience can come at a steep price, it’s also a pathway to empowerment and personal growth.
Join us as we dive deep into the complexities of resilience—why it’s both a blessing and a burden and how we can harness our own inner strength to move through life’s challenges with grace. It's a conversation that will make you rethink what it truly means to be "resilient."
