SEASON ONE: Introduction

Imagine, you’re at school, work, or out with friends, family, or even colleagues; when someone says or does something that makes you stop in your tracks. You tilt your head and say, “Wait. Hold up…what?”
These are moments that make us question our choices on a deeper level. Are we in the wrong job? Are we going in the right direction? Are we invested in the right partner? Do we know our friends the way we thought we did? We even ask ourselves, “What have they experienced that makes them consider what they say or do justifiable?”
These are the moments that force us to embrace and consult with our closest ally about what we should do or what we should have done differently. Was that the best way to respond? Is it valid to mourn the idea of these relationships or individuals we thought we knew? Most importantly, am I wrong or are they?
Throughout Dawne’s life, she has been keenly aware of how many of these moments occurred through the lens of gender. It’s an inappropriate comment or action. Sometimes it’s even an old-fashioned perspective that’s based on long-held beliefs that women and girls are less than—that we don’t deserve as much. The belief that we don't deserve to have the same voice, recognition, or even the same position. We could go on.
Even so, it was a single moment at work that came rushing in like a tsunami for Dawne. She couldn’t ignore it or brush it off any longer. So, she made a change. She quit her job and started a company. She decided to create and work in a space that helps empower women, to make those moments where you say, “Wait. Hold up…what?” less frequent. We’re delighted to introduce you to WAIT. HOLD UP…WHAT? is a new podcast about taking a beat to share our experiences, tell our stories, and help forge a new path for all who identify as female.
