WAIT. HOLD UP…WHAT?

This is a moment I have instilled in my memory. The audacity of openly hearing the question, “Why do we hire women, when we are a men’s brand?” from an executive marked a pivotal turning point in my Marketing career. Surely, many of us women brush off the communication surrounding how “men talk” and overlook it. However, I found myself not being able to brush it off as the status quo, but instead was compelled to ask myself, “Why?”

In the first episode of the podcast WAIT. HOLD UP…WHAT? I sit down with Becky Wilkinson, a twenty-year veteran of Oakley who helped establish the company’s prescription eyewear business. Her contribution made the first wrapped lens prescription eyewear possible, creating a 100-million-dollar-a-year worldwide opportunity for the company. Besides Becky’s contributions at Oakley, she helped change my career trajectory many years ago.

Going back in time, we discuss that very moment when an executive said, “Why do we hire women when this is a men’s brand?” and the start of Eliminate Girl Hate.

Throughout this episode, we discuss our time working together at Oakley, the truths behind navigating an all-male-dominated environment, the highs and lows of working with an all-female team, and how we have successfully navigated these challenges.
